As the Head of Genetics for the SYNLAB Group, Michael leads international genetic diagnostics with expertise in NGS, rare diseases, and pharmacogenetics. An Oxford D. Phil. graduate, he has been instrumental in founding and leading European networks to improve the quality of genetic testing and has co-authored over 130 scientific publications.
Michael is deeply committed to applying genetics to improve patient outcomes, showing a specific passion for newborn screening, womens health, and advancing the understanding of cystic fibrosis genetics. He serves on the scientific boards for the European Molecular Genetics Quality Network and the BLACKSWAN Foundation for rare diseases.
He was a founding member of the European network "Eurogentest, " which aimed to improve the quality of genetic testing across Europe.
