Silas Maniatis is the Associate Director of Spatial Genomics at the New York Genome Center, where he leads the development of technologies for spatially resolved studies. With a Ph. D. from Harvard, his work focuses on understanding neurodegenerative diseases like ALS by creating detailed gene expression maps to uncover molecular mechanisms.
Outside of the lab, Silas identifies as a "Father and Scientist" and lives in Brooklyn. He is a supportive leader, expressing great pride in the work of the interns and junior scientists he mentors within the Innovation Lab at the New York Genome Center.
Unique fact: Before his current role, he was a founding employee at the biotech company Acceleron Pharma, helping to establish its research platform.
