Tom McKenzie

Tom McKenzie is the Co-Founder and Director of Spark: York, a pioneering community hub. A trained architect with a Masters in Urban Design from Newcastle University, he is focused on urban regeneration and creating affordable spaces for local businesses and social enterprises in the city of York.

Deeply passionate about community-led development, Tom is driven to create inclusive public spaces that deliver social and economic value. His work on Spark: York was inspired by innovative urban projects he saw in cities like London and Berlin, fueling his interest in placemaking.

Tom co-founded and designed Spark: York, an acclaimed venue built entirely from upcycled shipping containers on a derelict city-centre plot.
