Beena Sukumaran

D. from Purdue University, she has a proven record of expanding research, having increased awards by nearly 50% in one year as Vice President for Research at Rowan University.
Inspired by her father, an engineering assistant, she pursued civil engineering to understand how soil behaves during extreme events. She is a first-generation immigrant who actively works to create an inclusive environment for students and faculty, emphasizing how engineering and computing can be a force for good in society.
She received a Distinguished Engineering Award for her voluntary field assessment of geotechnical damage along the New Jersey coast following Hurricane Sandy.
