Dr. Brian I. Daniels is a leader in cultural heritage, serving as Director of Research and Programs for the Penn Cultural Heritage Center. His work focuses on heritage preservation in conflict zones, community-based initiatives, and indigenous rights. He holds a Ph. D. in Anthropology and History from the University of Pennsylvania.
His passion for archaeology began in childhood, inspired by frequent museum visits with his grandmother in the San Francisco Bay Area. This early fascination evolved into a professional focus on the contemporary use of the past and the ethics of preservation and curation for communities.
As of January 2026, Dr. Daniels is the President of the Archaeological Institute of America, the oldest and largest archaeological organization in North America.
