For over 30 years, Chief Darcy Bear has led the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, transforming it into an economic powerhouse. His focus on self-governance and partnerships attracted over $160M in investment and created hundreds of jobs. He holds a Business Administration Diploma from the University of Saskatchewan and sits on numerous boards.
Born and raised on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, he was taught Dakota culture by his grandparents and has three children. He is deeply committed to his communitys well-being and has been noted for providing financial support to local amateur sporting events and local artists.
Under his leadership, the First Nations unemployment rate dropped from 70% to a level comparable with the provincial average, a remarkable economic turnaround.
