Marianne Degerman

A licensed physiotherapist, she spearheads pioneering research in photobiomodulation (PBM), using medical lasers to treat hard-to-heal ulcers in the elderly, making Skellefteå the first municipality in Sweden to implement this treatment based on her work.
Personally, Mariannes interest in laser therapy was sparked after successfully receiving treatment for her own shoulder injury. She previously lived and ran her own business on the island of Tenerife for many years, where she married and raised her three children before returning to Sweden in 2011.
She began her PhD studies at the age of 54, with one of her daughters showing her around the Umeå University campus on her first day.
