Viorel Munteanu is the Head of the Bioinformatics Laboratory at the Technical University of Moldova. His research focuses on applying machine learning to wastewater-based epidemiology for global health surveillance, with recent publications in Nature Water and Cell Genomics. He is also certified in Python Essentials.
Viorel is passionate about advancing the field of bioinformatics through education and open science. He is actively involved in developing training programs to build scientific capacity in Eastern Europe and explores new models for decentralized, collaborative research to ensure data is both accessible and secure.
He recently co-authored research demonstrating how wastewater monitoring can be used to detect Dengue virus RNA, providing a new tool for community health surveillance.
