He is a cardiologist and human geneticist pioneering single-course gene-editing therapies to treat cardiovascular disease. His career is built on his medical training at Harvard Medical School and genetic research at the Broad Institute.
Originally from India, Sekar immigrated to the US during elementary school. He pursued a B. A. in history at the University of Pennsylvania, a subject he was passionate about in high school, before committing to his medical career. His work is deeply motivated by personal family experiences with heart disease.
His company, Verve Therapeutics, was founded on the "one brave idea" of developing a one-time injection to permanently lower cholesterol and prevent heart attacks.
