Namandje Bumpus

A former FDA Principal Deputy Commissioner and Chief Scientist, she has deep expertise in regulatory science and policy. Dr. Bumpus earned her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Michigan.
She is passionate about developing the careers of others and championing diversity and inclusion in science, a commitment she demonstrated as the first associate dean for institutional and student equity at Johns Hopkins. Her father was a professional boxer, and she grew up in that world, an experience she credits with teaching her integrity.
Interesting fact: She became the first African-American woman to chair a department at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
